Safe and Drug-Free Schools and Communities Program

(The Federal Government discontinued funding for this Program in the 2010-11 School Year; however, Hamblen County is dedicated to providing safe and drug-free schools for our students.)

Title IV, Safe and Drug-Free Schools and Communities Program was designed to encourage the creation of safe, disciplined, and drug-free learning environments that will help all children meet challenging academic standards. The program provides support for school and community-based programs to help our nation’s communities prevent alcohol and other drug use, as well as youth violence.

Hamblen County Schools uses Safe and Drug-Free Schools and Communities program funds combined with other funding sources to provide the following:

  • School Resource Officers (SROs) serving the elementary, middle and high schools
  • School counselors in all thirteen elementary and primary school sites, and
  • Professional development to support violence prevention and conflict resolution efforts by school counselors and teachers.
